Cours Saleya Market, Nice

One sight you should not miss on a visit to the French Riviera is the Cours Saleya Market, in Vieux Nice. In existence since the Middle Ages, the market is a colorful display of produce, baked goods, spices and crafts, including regional specialities like dried lavender, Camargue sea salt and freshly caught seafood from the Mediterranean.

The market is ringed by numerous cafes, or you can put together a picnic and head for the nearby Promenade des Anglais to take in views of the pebbly beach along the Bay of Angels.

Socca is a local street food - a chickpea crepe.

Next to the market is the Marché aux Fleurs, the local flower market brimming with fragrant bougainvillea, peonies, jasmine and roses. It is the largest flower market on the French Riviera.
