Europe by Colour: Yellow

The fourth post in a series on my favourite travel photos by colour features the sunny colour yellow.

This little frog was keeping a discreet eye on visitors to the gardens of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild from his perch on a cluster of flowers. The lavish belle époque villa is on the Cap Ferrat peninsula on France's Côte d'Azur.

The Campania region of Italy is known for its lemons. This bowl of large cedri, or citrons, was seen through an open restaurant window on the legendary Isle of Capri.

The upscale Paris department store Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann is like an Art Nouveau palace with its golden arches, elaborate balconies and glass dome ceiling.

Also in Paris, the gardens of the Luxembourg Palace were planted in a yellow theme during our July visit. The palace where Marie de Medicis once lived is now home to the French Senate and sits in a large public park on the city's Left Bank.

Cheery sunflowers were one of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh's favourite subjects and he spent the latter years of his life in Provence. These blooms were for sale on a sidewalk in the town of St. Remy de Provence, where Van Gogh was hospitalized at the Saint Paul de Mausole Monastery.
